Fair Use & Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP)
This document governs customer relationships, platform usage, and operational guarantees provided by MeraHost. Please review these terms thoroughly. Continued use of MeraHost infrastructure constitutes full acceptance.
Executive Summary & Key Commitments
- Noisy Neighbor Protection: Every shared account is insulated with CloudLinux LVE containers so another user’s traffic spike cannot slow down your website.
- Clear Resource Transparency: We publish exact CPU, RAM, IOPS, and entry process thresholds instead of vague “unlimited” marketing promises.
- Dedicated Upgrade Paths: When your workload naturally outgrows shared hosting, we provide seamless 1-click zero-downtime upgrades to KVM VPS or Bare Metal Dedicated.
- Helpful Resolution First: In case of high resource consumption, our sysadmins offer proactive code optimization advice before applying throttles.
Purpose & Multi-Tenant Protection
MeraHost’s shared and WordPress hosting platforms are engineered to deliver enterprise-class LiteSpeed and NVMe speed at affordable cost. To maintain consistent sub-10ms edge response times, all shared accounts operate under this Fair Use Policy (FUP).
The primary objectives of this policy are:
- To guarantee predictable server stability, memory headroom, and CPU availability for all hosted websites.
- To eliminate the “noisy neighbor” phenomenon inherent in poorly regulated traditional web hosts.
- To transparently articulate operational boundaries, ensuring customers know when their traffic demands warrant an upgrade to a dedicated virtual private server (VPS).
CloudLinux LVE Resource Isolation
Unlike conventional hosts that allow runaway PHP scripts to consume 100% of physical CPU cores, MeraHost isolates every cPanel tenant using CloudLinux Lightweight Virtual Environment (LVE) technology:
- CPU Allocation: Each tenant is allocated dedicated physical CPU execution shares (e.g. 100% to 200% of 1 core).
- Physical Memory (PMEM): Dedicated RAM ceilings (typically 1 GB to 2 GB per account). Once reached, the web server serves a temporary 508 Resource Limit Reached error rather than crashing MySQL.
- I/O Throughput: Dedicated disk read/write bandwidth (typically 15 MB/s to 30 MB/s) ensuring heavy imports don’t starve neighbouring sites.
- Concurrent Entry Processes (EP): Limits on simultaneously executing PHP and CGI scripts (typically 20 to 30 concurrent processes).
Shared Resource Allocation Matrix
The following technical parameters govern standard shared and WordPress hosting packages:
| Resource Metric | Starter Tier | Growth / Plus Tier | Pro / Turbo Tier | Threshold Exceeded Action |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CPU Cores | 1.0 Core (100%) | 1.5 Cores (150%) | 2.0 Cores (200%) | CPU throttled to quota ceiling |
| Physical RAM | 1024 MB (1 GB) | 1536 MB (1.5 GB) | 2048 MB (2 GB) | Temporary 508 error until request ends |
| I/O Speed | 15 MB/s | 25 MB/s | 35 MB/s | Disk I/O queued at maximum bandwidth |
| Entry Processes (EP) | 20 Concurrent | 30 Concurrent | 40 Concurrent | Excess concurrent HTTP requests queued |
| Number of Processes (NPROC) | 100 Processes | 150 Processes | 200 Processes | New background processes prevented |
| Maximum Inodes | 250,000 Files | 400,000 Files | 600,000 Files | Notification sent; new writes paused |
Prohibited Workloads & Activities
The following workloads and software packages are strictly prohibited from execution on all MeraHost shared and WordPress hosting tiers:
- Cryptocurrency Mining: Any script, worker, or daemon executing proof-of-work mining (Bitcoin, Monero, etc.) or blockchain validation nodes.
- Public Proxies & Anonymizers: Open HTTP/SOCKS proxies, TOR exit nodes, VPN relay points, or scraping redirect networks.
- Automated Scraping & Spiders: Unthrottled crawlers, continuous web scrapers, or mass download bots that flood external or internal networks.
- Warez & Copyright Infringement: Distribution or hosting of pirated software, cracked license keys, torrent trackers, or unauthorized media streams.
- Malicious Code & Exploitation: Phishing templates, credential harvesting pages, denial of service (DoS/DDoS) attack stressers, or port-scanning tools.
Email & Messaging Volume Discipline
To protect our server IP addresses from being blacklisted by major mail providers (Gmail, Microsoft 365, Yahoo), the following email rules apply:
- Hourly Outbound Cap: A limit of 200 emails per hour per domain is enforced on shared hosting. Messages sent above this ceiling will be queued or rejected by the Mail Transfer Agent (MTA).
- Zero Tolerance for Spam: Sending unsolicited commercial email (UCE), purchasing third-party marketing lists, or scraping recipient addresses is cause for immediate mail port restriction.
- Authentication Standards: All domains must maintain valid SPF, DKIM, and DMARC DNS records (configured automatically via cPanel).
- Bulk Marketing Workloads: High-volume newsletters and promotional broadcasts should utilize specialized transactional relay providers (such as Amazon SES, Mailgun, or SendGrid).
Database & Scheduled Cron Optimization
Database queries and background tasks must be structured to prevent storage engine deadlocks:
- Cron Job Frequency: Scheduled cron tasks that invoke resource-heavy PHP scripts or external cURL calls must run at intervals no shorter than 15 minutes. Rapid crons (e.g. every minute) causing continuous CPU spikes may be paused by sysadmins.
- Query Efficiency: Long-running queries (executing > 30 seconds without index keys) that lock database tables will be terminated by automated watchdog scripts to preserve MySQL daemon responsiveness.
- Database Sizing: Individual database tables should not exceed 2 GB on shared tiers without consultation with our technical team.
Storage Quotas & Inode Guidelines
Our NVMe storage arrays are high-speed enterprise drives optimized for live web serving. To protect filesystem integrity:
- Permitted Files: Storage must be used exclusively for files directly powering active websites, including PHP/HTML scripts, media assets, stylesheets, and operational databases.
- Backup Archives: Full cPanel backup archives (`.tar.gz`) generated by backup wizards must be downloaded to your local computer or transferred off-site within seven (7) days of creation.
- Prohibited Storage: Storing extensive personal photo/video libraries, software distribution ISOs, or CCTV video footage unrelated to the website is prohibited.
Scaling & Seamless VPS Upgrade Paths
Exceeding shared hosting limits is often a hallmark of your business growth. MeraHost makes scaling painless:
- Proactive Traffic Analysis: Our engineers monitor usage telemetry. If your site consistently reaches 90% of its LVE allocation, we notify you with a comprehensive analysis.
- Managed Zero-Downtime Migration: Upgrading from shared hosting to a Managed KVM VPS or Bare Metal Dedicated Server is handled completely free by our senior sysadmins.
- Dedicated Compute: On VPS and Dedicated tiers, you receive 100% dedicated vCPU and RAM with root access, freeing your applications from shared LVE thresholds entirely.
Multi-Tier Abuse Escalation Workflow
Except in emergency situations involving active criminal activity or severe network compromise, MeraHost applies a structured three-tier resolution process:
- Tier 1 – Advisory Ticket: Our support desk opens a priority ticket documenting the resource consumption spike or malware file path, with guidance on how to optimize or clean the code.
- Tier 2 – Temporary Throttling: If the workload remains uncontrolled after 24–48 hours and impacts other tenants, CloudLinux automatically caps the execution speed rather than taking down the website.
- Tier 3 – Service Isolation: Only when customer communication is ignored or when an account poses an acute danger to platform stability will temporary account suspension be implemented.
